Medicine
I completed my Medical School Studies at University of Guadalajara graduating with honors. I was also an instructor for anatomy and Physiology, demonstrating my compromise for academics and teaching. I did my Internship at the prestigious Instituto de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición Salvador Zubiran and did my social service year through the National Experimental Surgery Research Program at the Centro de Investigación Biomédica de Occidente of the IMSS (Mexican Social Security Insititute).
General and Endocrine Surgery
I studied my residency on General Surgery at the prestigious Instituto de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición Salvador Zubiran the best center nationwide for this specialty, backed by the National Autonomous University of México (UNAM) I also had the opportunity to attend an international rotation at the Alamaba Univeristy in Birmingham, USA. I got certified as a General Surgeon by the Mexican Council of General SurgeryI later completed a fellowship on Endocrine Surgery and Advanced Laparoscopy where I was able to rotate at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in the United States,
Plastic Surgery Training
On 2014 I started my subspecialty on Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery under the direction of Professor José Gurerrerosantos at the prestigious Jalisco's Institute of Reconstructive Surgery, one of the best Plastic Surgery centers in Latin America. During my time there, I performed surgeries of different types in all fields of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery, such as breast reconstruction, skin injury surgery, hand surgery, burns, facial aesthetic surgery and body contouring, as well as post-massive weight loss plastic surgery. I did rotations abroad at the Memorial Sloan Cancer Center in New York, Toronto General Hospital in Canada and at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
I won the national prize "Dr. Fernando Ortiz Monasterio", for best research work for my subspecialty thesis and participated in academic activities within the Mexican Association of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Fellowships and Master Degree (UK)
Subsequently, I completed postgraduate studies in England, completing two fellowships in Reconstructive Microsurgery of Head, Neck and Facial Paralysis and Breast Reconstruction at the renowned St. Andrews Centre for Plastic Surgery and Burns sponsored by the Royal College of Surgeons of EnglandI am a graduate of the Master of Science in Microsurgical Reconstruction receiving honors form the Queen Mary University of London.
Research and Continuous Education
I am currently working on my private practice along my brother Dr. Hiram Fernández Díaz in Fernández & Fernández Plastic Surgery at OFF Hospital in Guadalajara, Mexico.
I'm an associate proffessor at Medical School for the University of Guadalajara teaching subjects to the new generations of doctors in the country. I participate in national research as a member of the National System of Researchers Level 1. I have published multiple articles in national and international magazines and book chapters. I am a member of the most prestigious national and international plastic surgery societies.
I am also the founder and president of Reconstrúyeme Foundation dedicated to offering comprehensive and multidisciplinary services in Reconstructive Surgery for patients with economic difficulties.
